3D Redesign
The purpose of this project is to design then 3D print a tool holder that holds on a wall via a french cleat. there were many tool groups to choose from with varying sizes, shapes, and amounts. I chose to make my tool holders hold hammers.
Research
the first step of this project was to research what other people have done. I used a lot of the ideas from one hammer holder I found, but made it to hold 3 hammer holders rather than one.
designing
During the designing phase of this project I had to measure the dimensions of the tool I chose. Once done with that I had to design the tool holder I was going to build. Once I finalized the rough plan I added the measurements in order to make it fit the hammers correctly.
After that I started to build my design in Autodesk Inventor. I haven't used inventor in a couple years so I was slow to start, but I started to go a little faster as I remembered how to use inventor.
Makerbot and 3D Print
Once I finished building my tool holder in inventor I transferred the file to Makerbot and started the 3D print.
redesign
My original 3D print was pretty good, the only problem was that the space between the two pegs was too small for the hammer end to fit without twisting them. For my redesign all I did was add length to my tool holder and increase the space between the two pegs so the hammer handles could fit through the gap easily.
What Did I learn
from this project I relearned how to use inventor to design items. I also learned how to design an Item for a specific task and modify it to work the best that it could. Along with this I just got used to working in the innovation center.
